Dry fruit panchakhadya - panchakhajjaya recipe with a video and step by step written instructions. Ganesh festival is celebrated for 10 days starting from Ganesh Chaturthi. Panchakhadya or Panchakhajjaya is made for Ganesh/Ganapati naivedya and distributed as prasad or khirapat to devotees.

Panchakhadya or Panchakhajjaya is made with minimum 5 ingredients. 'Pancha' means 5 in Indian languages. Dry fruit panchakhadya - panchakhajjaya is a healthy recipe may be made in powder form or laddoo or Modak form.

How to make Dry fruit Panchakhadya - Panchakhajjaya

Ingredients for Dry fruit Panchakhadya - Panchakhajjaya

  • Almonds- 15
  • Cashew nuts - 15
  • Dried figs - anjeer - 5
  • Dry coconut - 2 tbsp
  • Roasted poppy seeds - 1 tsp
  • Raisins - 1 tbsp
  • Rock candy sugar - 2 tbsp
  • Dates - (Kharik or khajoor) - 6

Step by step instructions for making Panchakhadya - Panchakhajjaya

Add all the ingredients to a blender jar. Pulse a few times to get coarse powder as shown below in the image. Add powder to a plate or bowl.

Do not make the powder too fine. Mix well and form into rounds - laddoos or in Modak form. If you have a modak mould, you may use that. I got 11 laddoos with the quantity of ingredients given above.

 Tips and variations

  • You may add  other dry fruits if you wish.
  • Sugar is optional. The sweetness of raisins, dates and figs is enough.
  • Keep this in powder form or make laddoos or modak.
  • you may use desiccated coconut instead of kopra pieces.
  • If you are not able to bind into any shape, add a few drops of ghee, mix well and you will be able to form any shape.
  • Vegans can add coconut oil instead of ghee.
