Halva is sweet as well as savory. Out of many other Indian sweets, Halva is a very versatile Indian sweet made with a variety of ingredients. Though halva is mostly sweet, Upma is also refered to as Namkeen halva in hindi. For sweet halvas, Sugar or brown sugar, jaggery, dry fruits, milk or condensed milk or coconut milk, honey is added as a sweetener. For flavor, cardamoms, essences such as rose, kewra are added. Spices and herbs such as ginger, cinnamon are also added to some halvas. Whatever you use as the ingredients, halva is tasty and irresistible. Halva is made with:(note:Indian names are in bracket) Vegetables - carrot-halwa(gajar-ka-halwa), bottle gourd-halwa (doodi-halwa, dumroat), beetroot halva. Fruits - banana halva, dry fruits halva , mango halva.
