Bread Chaat Recipe - Indian Fast Food

This bread chaat recipe is one of the healthy chat recipes. Bread chaat is easy to make like other chaats, Indian street foods.

As Indian fast food, chaats are popular as never before. Kids as well as grownups flock around the street vendors on chaat street every evening in every town and city.

Not only chaats are available on the street and restaurants, health conscience people make it at home so that they use the healthier substitutes instead of the usual fried one.

This bread chaat can be prepared for a evening snack, a kids party or for a kitty party. Just anytime when you want something healthy as well as yummy. It is filling too.

In this bread chaat recipe, we can use any type of bread. You can use fresh bread but leftover bread, one or two day old bread is better.

Make croutons (roasted bread pieces) with the bread. You will find the instructions about how to make croutons. You may choose any one method from the three given methods.

As is usually done with chaat recipes, get all the ingredients listed below ready.

All the preparation can be done in advance, even the day before. Assemble and serve when needed. The final assembling will be done on the serving plate itself.

How to make Bread Chaat

Main ingredients for bread chaat

Croutons made with white or brown bread
Boiled potatoes aloo - batata
Onions - Pyaj - Kanda
Red ripe tomatoes
cilantro - coriander - dhania

Ingredients to make 2 plates of bread chaat.

  • Croutons - 1 cup
  • Chopped onion - 1/2 cup
  • Chopped tomatoes - 1/2 cup
  • Sev or mixture or farsan of your choice - 2 tbsp
  • Chaat masala - 1 tsp
  • Boiled and cubed potato - ½ cup
  • Chopped coriander (cilantro) leaves - 1 tbsp
  • Sprouted and boiled whole green moong beans - 2 tbsp
  • Green chutney(hari chutney) and tamarind chutney - 1 tsp each.

Assembling bread chaat

  1. On 2 serving plates, spread the croutons, the roasted bread pieces.
  2. Add the boiled and cubed potato pieces and the sprouted and boiled green mung beans.
  3. Add chopped onions, green chutney and tamarind chutney.
  4. Add sev or farsan.
  5. Sprinkle chaat masala, chopped tomatoes and coriander leaves.
  6. Serve immediately.

Tips

  • You may add green boiled peas instead of or along with sprouted green moong.
  • Add a little lime juice along with tomatoes. This is optional as we have already added the sweet and sour tamarind chutney.
